SUMMARY:Intelligent Love Spring 2019 Cohort
DESCRIPTION:Do you and and your friends want to get equipped to communicate effectively for change? \nGraduates of REED’s Intelligent Love are informed\, confident and engaging advocates for women and against the sex industry.  They organize other people to challenge the status quo in public and private. Many host public and private events exposing their people networks to powerful\, world-alerting ideas and practices.  And IL alums are currently influential in transition houses\, university classrooms\, women’s shelter\, hospital wings\, federal and provincial courts\, and many other places. \nIntelligent Love is an 8 week in-depth\, interactive course for 10 influencers who follow Jesus and want to address the systemic injustice of the sex industry. Each session will be a mix of speakers\, theological reflection\, and faith-rooted organizing training where we explore how our faith informs our resistance to the gender-based oppressions fueling the sex industry. \nThe title “Intelligent Love” is our way of referring to the need to move beyond charity to address systemic changes. The more justice we have\, the less charity we will need. Topics will include: gender socialization\, prostitution\, demand\, pornography\, contemporary culture\, colonization/race\, legal challenges\, and faith-rooted organizing. \nWe are asking each participant to commit to the following:\n• Attend all 8 sessions (exceptions made for illness\, work\, etc.)\n• Be willing to partner with REED to take action in response to what we learn\n• Pass on the knowledge you gain by teaching it to others\n• Engage in the learning with an open heart and open mind \nDetails\nLocation: First Christian Reformed Church of Vancouver \nDates: Thursday\, April 4th- May 30th \nTime: 6:30pm – 9:00pm \nCost is for 8 weeks is $200 for 1 person; $300 for 2 people. \n“REED has helped me open my eyes to the reality of sex trafficking on a local level\, as well as on a systemic level in our society and culture.
